SEA ROCKET BARN COTTAGE INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
Please note that these are family cottages which are let during the weeks that we are not using them, so that other families can enjoy the very special facilities of East Prawle
Arrival and Departure
Arrival: We cannot make the cottage available before 3 pm. Departure: The cottage MUST be vacated by 10 am. Please leave the cottage as clean as you can - our cleaners only have time for a brief final check.
Bedrooms
Linen is not provided but we have an arrangement with Gary and Clare Watson to provide and wash linen, and even make the beds if you contact and arrange what you want, including payment, directly with them. Their email is: gfwatson@candg-cleaning.com, telephone: 01548 559 359, mobile: 07834 872641.
We mainly use duvets on the beds but there are extra blankets for winter.
Always use under-sheets and pillowcases even if you have sleeping bags. If you move beds around please put them back where they were.
Garden level bedroom
There is one double bed 5 ft wide and a bathroom with a shower attachment.
Top bedroom overlooking the green
There are two single beds and an extra z-bed if required and a shower room (+ lavatory and sink).
Sitting Room/Kitchen
There is a fridge with a small freezer. Please make sure that the fridge is emptied of all foods on your departure. The oven and hob are electric.
Small Utility room
Downstairs outside the bathroom, with a washing machine.
Heating
The Wood Burner
Although small this is a fully functional wood burner, which when lit makes the sitting room very cosy. The shop sells wood and kindling.
Night Storage Heaters
There are 3 night storage heaters, one in the downstairs bedroom, one in the sitting room, and a small one in the bathroom downstairs.
As a general rule the downstairs bedroom heater is left off because it becomes too hot in the bedroom. However the bathroom one is very effective. The bathroom heater turns on using the switch above the bathroom door labelled “off peak”. In the winter we usually leave this on.
The sitting room storage heater also has a convector (the switch on the side of the radiator). Please only use this rarely as the storage heater itself should be sufficient.
There is a dimplex radiator in the top bedroom which is self explanatory.
Parking
Although you can park to unload cars, please make sure to park on the green - there is normally plenty of space.
Rubbish
Outline of the new system
The council has now introduced a recycling system which means that regular non-recyclable rubbish is collected once a fortnight, and recyclable plastic, tins, cardboard, paper and food waste is collected on alternate weeks. This means that if you are only staying for 1 week you will inevitably have to leave out the previous visitors' rubbish and the people following you will have to leave out your rubbish . Therefore, please be considerate and make sure you put the correct type of rubbish in the correct bags/bins. Please see the Council calendar, on the kitchen unit above the sink, to find out if it is a recyclable or non-recyclable collection.
What to do:
Daily, at the house:
i. Non-recyclable household waste goes in black bags in the grey wheelie bin .
ii. Card and paper goes in the blue bags ,
iii. Recyclable plastic bottles, cans and tins go in the clear bags
iv. Food waste goes in ONLY the bio-degradable caddy bags in the small kitchen caddy, which, when full, you must empty into the brown wheelie bin .
v. Do NOT use any other type of bin or bag as these will not be emptied. See council booklet on the cupboard above the sink for more details of what can be recycled (or more details in the red folder).
vi. Glass bottles must be taken to the bottle bank just outside the village on the road to Kingsbridge.
In emergency
Sarah Trinick holds the keys to Foss Cottage. She lives at Rock Cottage which is next to the thatched cottage on the right as you walk up the hill, set back from the road just before you get to the village green. Her phone number is 01548 511 386. Please only call her in an emergency.
